Episode Two -- Nix -- Saratoga Springs, UT

Drew and Cam Lee went fishing every other week during the summer. They lived in Saratoga Springs, Utah, just a few miles away from the lake. Usually, it wasn't a big deal. But this summer some big wig had authorized the construction of some...resort. So they had to contend with construction and closings and it generally made the whole thing a big hassle.

Even so, they still took time off work every other week to spend a day on the lake. On this particular day, the two brothers were kicked back in their paddle boat, lines cast, relaxing in the sun.

"Hey, check it." Cam said, gesturing towards the bank. A construction worker was walking towards the water, still in his work boots and hardhat and everything else. "What's that idiot doing?" He asked with a laugh, sitting up straighter. Drew also shifted to get a better look.

"Hey, hey, look. What's that?" Drew asked, pointing to something in deeper water from the worker. Cam squinted his eyes to try and see it in the reflection of the sun. Whatever it was, the construction worker was intent on getting to it, he was now up to his chest in the water. "Man, that guy is gonna drown himself." Drew said, leaning forwards.

Cam sighed in agreement and started to reel in their lines as Drew started paddling them back to shore. "Hey, hey, buddy!" Drew called, trying to grab the attention of the construction worker. Once Cam got the lines in, he started helping to paddle, each of them rowing more and more frantically as the man jsut kept walking deeper and deeper into the water.

Drew let out a line of curses as the man started to disappear under the water. They were close enough that Drew threw himself into the water after him, diving down to try and bring him back up. The water was murky and the worker's clothes were so heavy that Drew had a hard time finding him. He kept coming back up, and diving back down. Cam had kept paddling back to shore and as soon as he hit bottom he raced from the boat to call for help.

Tam stood on the edge of the construction site. Excavators and backhoes stood abandoned. Since the first drowning, witnessed by two brothers, three more construction workers had drowned. The fifth, final, and more recent drowning was that of the project manager.

The way the Lee brothers told it, the first construction worker had just walked into the water like he was after something. The other drowning victims had acted the same way. Tam didn't know what to think.

Water spirits, most likely. A voodoo curse, maybe. Possession? Possibly. It was nearing the end of August, the resort should have been finishing up construction but instead families were planning funerals.

Tam turned away from the site and got back into her car. Lurking at the site wasn't going to get her anywhere.Time to go see the Brothers Lee.

Nathan and Mitch were cruzing along the highway in the charger. They had to smile because now they had a job and they could finally get to work. So what's the job agian? Nathan asked looking over at Mitch.

So what's the job agian? Nathan had asked. Mitch looked at the news paper clippings again and said. There have been a lot of drownings lately on a construction site. And all the people walked into the water as if going after something. Mitch could see that Nathan was gonna ask another question but Mitch had an idea of what it was gonna be. It's in Saratoga Springs Utah. Mitch said looking over at him.

Nathan heard what Mitch had said and gave him a look when he answered the his question. Nathan then turned his eyes back to the road and saw that they were only about 20 miles away from Saratoga Springs. So Nathan pushed down on the gas peadel a little harder.

Emma had heard about the drownings in Saratoga so of course she had decided to check them out. She was currently finishing up an interview with the Lee brothers, boys who had seen the first drowning and were convinced that something had lured the man into the water. It wasn't really any new information, she had known that all the victims had walked in and practically drowned themselves. "Did you see what he was looking at?" She asked, keeping her notebook open and preparing to write down details. She could remember all of this in her head easily but the whole 'reporter' lie involved some props.

"Not really, the sun was reflecting off the water too much." Cam answered and Emma nodded, scribbling some nonsense down in her book.

"Well thanks for your time boys." She told them standing up and shaking their hands.

"No problem. If you need anything else just let us know." Drew said and she smiled at them as they walked her to the door.

"I will. See ya." She told them as she walked outside and headed towards her car, putting her sunglasses on and throwing the notebook into her backseat as she climbed in. Time to research water creatures.

Tam pulled up outside the Lee household as Emma was climbing into her car. Tam parked behind her and climbed out quickly, not really believing her eyes. Two hunts in a row, that was a little ridiculous.

She rapped soldily on the backseat window as she walked up towards the dirver's window, then stood and waited for Emma to react.

If Nathan and Mitch showed up too, Tam was going to hit someone. She wasn't sure who yet.

Emma had to do a double take as Tam stood outside her window. Pushing her sunglasses on top of her head, she rolled down her window and gave her a look of disbelief. "You've got to be kidding me." She told her as she looked around, expecting the other two to pop up any second. What was with these people?

"And here I thought the guys would be the ones stalking me." She said with an attempt of humor before sighing. "We're gonna have to work together aren't we?" She asked already knowing the answer.

Nathan and Mitch had arrived in Saratoga Falls and had decided to check out the witnesses to the last drowning which was the Lee brothers. As they pulled down the street Nathan's jaw hit the floor. Standing in the driveway was Tam and Emma. Nathan parked his car across the street and began walking toward the two female hunters. Mitch close behind him. From across the street Nathan yelled You gotta be kiding me.

Tam looked to the sky as Nathan exclaimed behind her. She lifted her hand and ran it down her face, taking a deep calming breath.

"Ookay. This has to stop." She muttered. "Should I have called ahead to make reservations?" She added, somewhat bitterly.

She looked at Emma. "In answer to your question, yes, we'll be working together again. Do you have a room at the hotel yet so you can share what you know with me, and vice versa?" Tam finally asked, having...regained her zen place. For the time being.

Nathan listened as Tam had her rant and she finished by asking Emma about a room so they could exchange information/ Hey your not running us outta this one Tam. Your gonna pull this job your doing it with us. Nathan said in a matter of fact voice.

She tossed him a glance before turning back to Emma. "Did I say I was excluding you?" She asked rhetorically. "Didn't think so. We should get off the property before they start getting suspicious."

Nathan smiled at the fact that they were gonna be included in the hunt. Ok then we'll follow you then. Nathan said responding to Tam's remark about them attracting suspsion. They got back into his charger and waited for Tam and Emma to move.

Mitch hadn't said anything because he was in shock that he and Nathan had ran into both Tam, and Emma twice now. Mitch didn't mind though truth be known he had liked Tam and Emma and was excited to be working with them again. Although he was a bit happier to see Emma.

Tam got back into her own car and drove back to her hotel. The others were behind her, so she didn't linger by her car for them to join her before heading up to her room. She just climbed out of her car and walked into the building and up into the hall where her room was.

When she walked in, she flipped the lock out so the door wouldn't shut all the way, then waited for the others to join her.

Nathan and Mitch followed Tam back to her room and went inside when they saw the door was open. So what's the deal? Nathan asked taking a seat in one of the chairs in the room.

Emma rolled her eyes as the other two showed up, not believing this was truly happening again. Realizing there was no way around working with them, she sighed and followed the others to the hotel, making her way up to the room and flopping down on one of the beds. "So what's the deal?" Nathan asked and Emma shrugged in his direction.

"Lees were worthless, didn't see anything cause of the sun. My guess is it's a water creature of some sort and not possession or anything else. I still have to find out if this has happened before or if it's a recent thing. You guys do anything useful?" She answered, raising an eyebrow as she turned her attention to the guys. They had been pretty much dead weight the last time around and she wasn't going to babysit them again. Either they did something to help out or they went on their merry way plain and simple.

Nathan shot Emma a look when she asked if they had done anything so he sat up and said Well we know it's not a possesion. Me and Mitch checked out the construcion site and there were no signs of demon. So Mitch did a little digging and found out that the area the construction site has been used for years. Nathan said giving Emma a look that said they weren't so useless after all.

Tam absent mindedly twisted her fingers into the dogtags around her neck as Nathan said what they knew.

"Yeah, by people fishing and camping and hiking. No one has ever actually built on it." She nodded towards Emma. "Which lends towards the water spirit idea. Construction would pose as a threat to them."

She slipped the tags back underneath her shirt and moved to sit on the table. "I was just at the site before going over to the Lees' house. Passed through it to look at the actual site of the drownings. If they were lured in by a water spirit, they were lured in from a distance. The construction site isn't actually on the lake. They're building a rec center lodge a little ways away."

Mitch had heard Tam say that they were building a rec center pretty far off of the lake. But if there building it away from the lake why would the water spirit or whatever the hell it is were dealing with start killing people off? Mitch asked looking around the room.

"Because it's still on the lake. They're ripping up trees and digging into the earth." She gave him a look. They were edging closer and closer to the banks with their work. It's one thing to plop a row boat into the lake to go fishing. It's an entirely other thing to building a cement ramp leading down to it for people to water ski on."

Nathan looked at Tam and asked So how would we go about finding and killing one of these creatures. Nathan asked looking at Tam.

She shrugged. "Go to the lake and piss it off?" She suggested, only halfway considering it. There might be something else to lure it out. Spells or a bait of some kind. Maybe some type of herb. I don't know. Haven't really looked into it yet."

Nathan nodded as Tam spoke and said So that's our master plan huh just go to the lake and piss of a water spirit. Ok so when you wanna go do that. Nathan asked.

"Send the boys into the lake as bait? I totally like that plan!" Emma spoke up as Tam started shooting off ideas, flashing a grin at them. She wasn't being serious of course, well not completely anyway.

"We should probably look up what kind of creature it is first. Or at least find some common characteristics in all the lore. Otherwise we're going to be shooting in the dark and I don't like failing." She added, grabbing her bag she had brought up and pulling her laptop out. She turned it on and logged onto the internet, pulling up random stories about water creatures and pulling out a notebook, beginning to write stuff down. Something in these stories had to be helpful.

Nathan watched as Emma began her reaserch and he gave her a dirty look when she mentioned sending him and Mitch to the lake as bait. Nathan stood up and said Well then' i'll make a coffee run while you do the reaserch. Nathan said. Mitch stood up like he was gonna go with him but Nathan pushed him back down. You stay here and help Emma. He said giving him a wink.
